According to the latest update from the US Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), Typhoon Dudzai is operating strongly in the southwest Indian Ocean, significantly affecting weather and sea conditions in the island nation of Mauritius - a famous tourist destination.
On January 20, the center of Typhoon Dudzai was located about 332 km south-southeast of Port Louis (Mauritius), moving in a southwest direction at a speed of about 26 km/h in the past 6 hours.
The significant sea wave height measured is up to 7.6 m, showing that the sea is very rough, especially dangerous for boats and marine tourism activities.
In the next 12 hours, Typhoon Dudzai is forecast to continue moving in a southwest direction, following the northwest edge of the subtropical high pressure. After about 18 hours, this system will change direction, accelerate south and then southeast, when it enters the southwest edge of the high pressure.
It is forecast that in the next 36 hours, Dudzai will weaken into a tropical depression, but can still cause strong winds and rough seas on maritime routes.
Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Invest 98S is operating near Mozambique and is assessed by JTWC as highly likely to strengthen into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.
The maximum sustained wind is about 50-60 km/h.
It is forecast that the Invest 98S low pressure area will move east, towards southern Madagascar, and at the same time strengthen rapid organization within 24 hours.
Tourists planning to travel or vacation in Mozambique, Madagascar and the southwestern Indian Ocean should regularly update weather forecasts, storm warnings, and flexibly adjust their itinerary to ensure safety.
