Typhoon Jangmi has officially strengthened into a typhoon, causing thunderstorms and rough seas in many areas of the Philippines.

According to the latest storm news from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Typhoon Jangmi (local name Domeng) has officially strengthened into a typhoon.

As of 4 pm on May 30, the storm's center was located at about 18.4 degrees North latitude - 129.4 degrees East longitude, located about 815 km east of Northern Luzon. The storm has the strongest sustained wind near the center reaching 120 km/h, gusting up to 150 km/h. The storm is moving in a Northwest direction at a speed of about 20 km/h.

It is forecasted that in the coming days, the storm will continue to move in a Northwest direction before changing direction to the Northeast, approaching the South Japan area. The Philippine meteorological agency assesses that the possibility of the storm making landfall in this country is not high.

Although the eye of the storm is still far from the mainland, the storm's circulation combined with the Southwest monsoon is causing rain in many areas of the Philippines. The provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora and Quezon are forecast to have thick clouds, scattered showers and thunderstorms due to the rainy crevice of Typhoon Jangmi, with moderate to heavy rain in some places, posing a risk of flash floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, the Mimaropa, West Visayas, Negros Islands, Zamboanga Peninsula, Barmm Autonomous Region, Batangas and Lanao del Norte continue to be affected by increased southwest monsoon with showers and thunderstorms, with heavy rain in some places.

In Northern Luzon, winds are forecast to be moderate to strong, rough seas from moderate to rough with waves 1.2-3.4 m high. Central Luzon and Southeast Luzon areas have waves 0.6-2.5 m high. The remaining sea areas of the Philippines record waves 0.6-1.8 m high.

People and tourists are advised to closely monitor the developments of Typhoon Jangmi, limit travel to coastal areas and mountainous areas at risk of heavy rain, flash floods and landslides. At the same time, it is necessary to comply with the instructions of functional agencies to ensure safety.
