Storm No. 1 Wutip makes landfall for the second time, continues to accelerate on land

Typhoon No. 1 Wutip has made a second landfall, and is in the mainland of China after sweeping across Hainan Island.

According to the Quangdong Provincial Meteorological Station (China), Typhoon No. 1 Wutip made its second landfall near Liizhou City, Guangdong Province (southern China) at around 12:30 on June 14.

At landfall, Wutip had weakened into a strong tropical storm, with maximum winds near the center reaching 30 meters/s.

Previously, at around 11pm on Friday, April 13, Typhoon Wutip made its first landfall near Dongful City, in Hainan Island Province, southern China.

According to the Vietnam National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 1:00 p.m. on June 14, the center of the storm was at about 21.2 degrees North latitude; 109.9 degrees East longitude, in the Lusian Peninsula (China).

The strongest wind near the storm center is level 10 (from 89 to 102 km/h), gusting to level 12. The storm is moving northeast at a speed of about 15-20 km/h.

Forecast of the development of storm No. 1 in the next 36 hours

At 1:00 p.m. on June 15, storm No. 1 continued to move northeast at a speed of 15-20 km/h and gradually weakened into a tropical depression. The center of the tropical depression is forecast to be at about 24.2 degrees North latitude - 112.5 degrees East longitude, in the mainland area of Guangdong province (China).

Intensity level 7, gust level 9. The danger zone is in the northern latitude of 19.5 degrees North latitude; from 108.0 to 112.0 degrees East longitude. Level 3 natural disaster risk, affecting the northern Gulf of Tonkin and the northwest of the North East Sea.

At 01:00 on June 16, the storm continued to move northeast at a speed of 20-25 km/h, weakening into a low pressure area. The center of the low pressure area is forecast to be at about 26.0 degrees North latitude - 115.0 degrees East longitude, in the mainland area of Guangdong province (China). Intensity below level 6.

Forecast of the impact of storm No. 1

At sea, the sea area east of the North Gulf of Tonkin will have strong winds of level 7-8, near the storm's eye will have winds of level 9-10, gusting to level 12. Waves are 2.0 to 4.0 meters high, very rough seas. The sea area west of the North Gulf of Tonkin (including Co To and Bach Long Vi island districts) and the Northwest of the North East Sea will have strong winds of level 6, gusts of level 8, waves 2.0-3.0 meters high, rough seas.

Ship operating in the above sea areas are likely to be affected by thunderstorms, tornadoes, strong winds and big waves, especially attention should be paid to ensuring safety.

Tourists planning to travel or visit northern coastal areas such as Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, especially the island areas of Co To and Bach Long Vi, should closely monitor the developments of storm No. 1 or tropical depression.

Visitors should not swim, participate in sea activities or travel to the island in bad weather.
