According to storm news, the latest low pressure from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), storm No. 3 (international name Kujira) has weakened slightly as it moves slowly in a Northeast direction over the waters west of Ilocos Sur province.
At 1:00 PM today, August 5th, the storm's center was located at about 17.6 degrees North latitude - 119.0 degrees East longitude, about 160 km west-southwest of the town of Sinait (Ilocos Sur province).
The storm has the strongest wind near the center reaching 75 km/h, gusting up to 90 km/h. Strong wind circulation expands within a radius of about 180 km from the storm center.
Because it is still quite far away, storm No. 3 does not have a major impact on Vietnam's sea and land.
For the Philippines, PAGASA has maintained a level 2 wind warning for Ilocos Sur province and some areas of La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Mountain Province and Benguet, where winds from 62-88 km/h may appear, causing risks of mild to moderate impacts on people and property.
Many other localities in the north of Luzon Island continue to be placed in wind warning level 1, with expected wind speeds of 39-61 km/h in the next 36 hours.
From noon on August 5 to noon on August 6, storm No. 3 will cause heavy to very heavy rain over 200 mm in La Union and Benguet. Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, Abra and Zambales provinces will have rain of 100-200 mm, while Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Pampanga and Bulacan commonly 50-100 mm.
From noon on August 6 to noon on August 7, rain due to the storm's circulation will be concentrated in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan and Benguet, with common rainfall of 50-100 mm.
In addition, the Southwest monsoon (Habagat) also continues to cause widespread rain. From noon on August 5 to noon on August 6, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas and Occidental Mindoro will have rain of 50-100 mm.
From noon on August 6 to noon on August 7, Occidental Mindoro may experience 100-200 mm of rain, while Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas and Antique are commonly 50-100 mm.
By noon on August 7 to noon on August 8, rain will continue to increase in Zambales, Bataan and Occidental Mindoro with rainfall of 100-200 mm. Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas and Antique areas will have rainfall of 50-100 mm.
PAGASA warns that the risk of flash floods, flooding and landslides remains high in areas affected by storm No. 3 and the Southwest monsoon, especially in areas with hilly terrain, along rivers and streams and areas with prolonged rain.
People and tourists in areas affected by storm No. 3 and the Southwest monsoon closely monitor weather bulletins, limit travel to deeply flooded areas, hillsides and riverbanks during heavy rain.
