According to the latest weather forecast from the Philippine Meteorological Agency (PAGASA), the low pressure has approached the eastern edge of the country's responsibility area (PAR).
The center of the low pressure was more than 1,100 km southeast of Luzon on Wednesday morning, December 3.
In the latest forecast, weather expert Loriedin De la Cruz-Galicia said: "The possibility of it developing into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours is still high".
PAGASA said that the low pressure is likely to strengthen in the next 24 to 48 hours, entering PAR today, December 3 at low pressure or tropical depression intensity. When it becomes a tropical storm in the PA, it will be named Wilma.
The storm forecast shows that the system could reach tropical storm strength as it moves over the Philippine Sea. However, the strong Northeast monsoon (Amihan) will limit the increase and may push the circulation west-southwest.
Initial forecasts show that the high pressure system is likely to make landfall in Eastern Visayas or the Caraga region on Saturday or Sunday (December 5 or 6.).
PAGASA recommends that people and tourists monitor updated weather reports, especially in areas likely to be affected when the depression enters the PAR and may develop into a storm Wilma.
If it continues to head towards the South China Sea next week, Wilma could become the 16th storm.
According to PAGASA's typhoon forecast, there may be 1-2 storms forming or entering the country's forecast area in December.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that in December, there is a possibility of 1 to 2 storms or tropical depressions forming in the East Sea.
According to the average data of many years, during this period, the East Sea area often has about 1 storm or tropical depression, of which only about 0.2 makes landfall in Vietnam.
Previously, in November, the East Sea recorded 3 storms and 1 tropical depression, of which storm No. 13 directly affected our mainland.
Meanwhile, storm No. 15 has weakened into a tropical depression over the Dak Lak - Khanh Hoa sea area. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression is level 6 (39-49km/h), gusting to level 8. Moving in the West Southwest direction, speed 15-20km/h.
Weather forecast for December 3, the sea areas of Dak Lak - Khanh Hoa provinces will have strong winds of level 6, gusts of level 8; waves 2.0-4.0m high, rough seas.
Ship operating in the above-mentioned dangerous area are likely to be affected by thunderstorms, whirlwinds, strong winds, and large waves.
