According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the night of July 15 and 16, the mountainous and midland areas of the Northern region and Quang Ninh province will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with common rainfall from 15–30mm, locally over 70mm.
Particularly, Lai Chau, Dien Bien and northern Son La provinces have rain, moderate rain, common rainfall is 20–40mm, locally there are places with heavy to very heavy rain over 100mm. Rain concentrates mainly at night, early morning and evening.
In the late afternoon and night of July 15, the Central Highlands and Southern regions will continue to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, with common rainfall of 10–30mm, locally over 70mm.
The meteorological agency warns of the risk of heavy rain, exceeding 80mm in 3 hours, increasing the risk of extreme weather phenomena.
During thunderstorms, people need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. The level of natural disaster risk due to tornadoes, lightning and hail is warned at level 1.
Localized heavy rain may cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides in hilly areas and flooding in low-lying areas. At the same time, thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind are at risk of breaking trees, damaging houses, affecting agricultural production, transportation and infrastructure projects.
