The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has updated the weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow (June 17) in regions across the country.
On June 17-18, the area from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang and the eastern provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak will continue to experience hot weather, with intense heat in some places.
The highest temperature is commonly from 35-37 degrees C, in some places above 38 degrees C. The relative lowest humidity is from 50-55%, the hot weather lasts from 11-17 hours daily.
The meteorological agency believes that the heat wave in the Central and Eastern Central Highlands regions is likely to last for many days to come. From around June 20, the midland and delta areas of the Northern region are likely to experience widespread heat waves.
Due to the impact of prolonged hot weather combined with low humidity, the risk of fires and explosions in residential areas, power grid incidents and forest fires is increasing. People also need to be wary of water loss, exhaustion or heat shock when working or operating outdoors for a long time.
Meanwhile, from the evening of June 16 to the end of June 18, the mountainous and midland areas of the Northern region will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms. Common rainfall is from 50-120mm, locally over 250mm. Rain mainly concentrates in the late afternoon, night and early morning, with the risk of localized heavy rain with intensity over 100mm in 3 hours.
In addition, the Northern Delta, Southern Delta and western Lam Dong province have scattered showers and thunderstorms, common rainfall from 10-30mm, locally over 60mm.
From the night of June 18, the Northern mountainous region will still maintain moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 10-30mm, locally over 60mm.
The meteorological agency warns that during thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Heavy rain may cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas and industrial parks; and increase the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides in hilly areas.
