According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the evening of July 31 to the end of August 1, the North, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, common rainfall from 10-30mm, locally over 60mm.
Notably, coastal areas of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An are likely to experience very heavy local rain with rainfall over 100mm. The meteorological agency warns of the risk of heavy rain, exceeding 100mm in 3 hours, posing a potential risk of flooding in urban areas and low-lying areas.
The period of thunderstorms and localized heavy rain in the North and Thanh Hoa is forecast to likely last for many days to come. During thunderstorms, people and tourists need to be wary of extreme weather phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. The level of disaster risk due to tornadoes, lightning and hail is warned at level 1.
Heavy rain can affect agricultural production activities, causing trees to fall, damage to houses, traffic works and infrastructure. In addition, the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides in hilly areas and flooding in low-lying areas and urban areas also needs to be especially noted.
