Hill A1 (French soldiers call it Eliane 2) is one of the famous historical sites associated with the Dien Bien Phu Victory in 1954.
This is where the fierce battle between our army and the French colonialists took place, playing an important role in deciding the outcome of the war.
After nearly 72 years, the A1 Hill relic has been restored many times and has become an unmissable destination in the historical land of Dien Bien Phu.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, the A1 Hill relic has been invested in installing an artistic lighting system and officially completed in December 2024.
This lighting project has a total investment of more than 13 billion VND invested by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien province.
Accordingly, immediately after the lighting project is completed, from January 1, 2025, the A1 Hill relic will be open in the evening to serve people and tourists.
The lighting system is synchronously arranged from overall hill lighting, concrete roads leading up, trails around the relic to historical artifacts.
In addition to opening hours during the day, visitors can visit Hill A1 on evenings from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays every week and on holidays and Tet. The current entrance fee is 20,000 VND/adult.
According to Lao Dong's actual records on Saturday evening, March 21, the space on Hill A1 was bright, solemn but quite deserted.
Talking to reporters, a female tourist in a group of 2 people from Hanoi said that because she was only present at Dien Bien Airport in the late afternoon, she decided to spend the evening going to Hill A1.
This is my first time here, I want to visit Hill A1 to feel the space before continuing my journey. The lighting system here works quite well, creating a cozy feeling. This place is very sacred and really a very worthwhile place to experience" - she said.
Representatives of the Dien Bien Provincial Relic Management Board (under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism) said that currently the number of visitors to Hill A1 in the evening is not large. The operation of the lighting system and opening in the evening aims to extend service hours and create more choices for tourists.
In addition, the lighting effect on Hill A1 also creates highlights, making the central area of Dien Bien province more prominent at night.
From March 2026, the Dien Bien Provincial Relic Management Board has adjusted the opening hours at points belonging to the Dien Bien Phu Special National Relic Battlefield.
For spring-summer season (from March 1st to September 30th), the morning is open from 7-11 am, the afternoon from 1:30 pm to 6 pm.
For autumn-winter (from October 1st to February 28th of the following year), the morning is open from 7am to 11am, the afternoon from 1:30pm to 5:30pm.
