The NHC issued a Hurricane Oscar warning for parts of the Turks and Caicos Islands (United Kingdom), the southeastern Bahamas, and the Cuban provinces of Guantanamo, Holguin, Las Tunas, and Camaguey.
Although classified as a minor storm, Oscar is forecast to bring 50-100mm of rain, with some areas receiving up to 150mm. The NHC predicts the storm will impact the areas between now and October 22.
Meanwhile, another tropical storm named Nadine is approaching Belize, just 40km southeast of Belize City and 140km southeast of Chetumal, Mexico. The storm is moving west at 13km/h, with sustained winds of 85km/h.
A Hurricane Nadine warning has been issued for the area from Belize City, Belize, to Cancun, Mexico, including the island of Cozumel.
NHC forecasts Nadine will bring heavy rain of 100-200mm, with some places over 300mm in northern Belize, northern Guatemala, and southern Mexico (from Quintana Roo to Veracruz).
Residents and visitors in affected areas should closely monitor information on the developments of both storms and take necessary preventive measures as instructed by local authorities.
Tourists planning to travel to the above locations in the coming days should consider postponing their schedule if the weather worsens.
