In harmony with the atmosphere of the 2025 River and Water Culture Festival held in Can Tho City, thousands of people and tourists from home and abroad flocked to the Ninh Kieu wharf area, the Ninh Kieu pedestrian bridge area and the road along the Khai Luong canal to watch performances in the opening night art program and wait to watch low-altitude fireworks displays.
According to the People's Committee of Can Tho City, rivers and water are considered one of the cultural roots of the Mekong Delta (Mekong Delta). The rivers carrying heavy alluvium have cultivated good rice, creating favorable conditions for aquaculture development, bringing a prosperous life to people in the Delta and Can Tho City.
The 2025 River Culture Festival is the first event held in Can Tho City. The festival not only introduces and promotes the characteristics of river culture of the Mekong Delta in general and the city in particular to people and tourists at home and abroad, but through it aims to raise community awareness in protecting the environment, river ecosystems, and developing sustainable tourism.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of Can Tho City People's Committee, said that in 2025, the city welcomed more than 11.1 million visitors, an increase of 18% compared to the same period, of which overnight visitors reached nearly 5 million; tourism revenue is estimated at nearly 10,000 billion VND, an increase of 20%.
The festival takes place from December 27, 2025 - January 1, 2026. The opening art program is special with a lively real-scene stage, recreating the livelihoods of the people and the river and water space of Can Tho; the rhythm of life on the wharf - under the boat is rustic for generations, a place for trade, cuisine and tourism harmonizing in one breath.... Everything will blend together into a river and water hymn" - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee said.
