Digitizing relics so that heritage is no longer gaping

The Hanoi People's Committee issued a plan to preserve and promote heritage values until 2025, with the goal of 100% of relics being digitized, serving management and promotion.

Before merging administrative boundaries, Hai Ba Trung district (old) was the first unit of Hanoi City to complete the 360° digitalization of all 100% of relic sites in the district and 3D digitalization of artifacts and antiques at the relic sites.

The district has reviewed and built a synchronous data system and posted information introducing all 51 relics on the website "360° historical - cultural relic of Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi".

After the merger, 51 relics of Hai Ba Trung district (old) are managed by 3 wards, of which Hai Ba Trung ward manages 32 historical and cultural relics.

The complex of relics of Hai Ba Trung Temple, Pagoda, and Communal House includes Hai Ba Trung Temple, Dong Nhan Communal House, and Vien Minh Pagoda, which were ranked as Special National Monuments in 2019, and Hai Ba Trung Temple Festival, which was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2025. integrated into digital transformation, relics apply 360° technology and QR codes, helping visitors look up information, explore online with vivid images, convenient for people from afar.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha (63 years old, living in Hanoi) shared: I just need to open my phone to be able to go in and see each shrine and each statue in the temple. Even though I did not go directly, I still saw every detail clearly. This technology helps me feel the relic in a very new, accessible and interesting way.

Ms. Nguyen Phuong Mai (Hai Ba Trung ward, Hanoi) said that since relics in Hanoi applied digital technology, with just a phone and a few steps, she was able to easily look up all the historical, architectural, and cultural information, especially about relics right in her ward.

Applying technology, spreading heritage values to the community

Launched at the end of May 2024, up to now, the website "360° historical - cultural relic of Hai Ba Trung district, old Hanoi City" has had more than 2 million visits.

Ms. Dao Thi Thu Phuong - Specialist of the Department of Culture - Social Affairs, Hai Ba Trung Ward - said that since the digitalization of relics and heritages in the area, the number of visitors has been much larger than before - a positive sign in the digitalization process.

The application of technology to the relic space not only expands access, but also contributes significantly to the preservation and promotion of heritage values, helping to preserve traditional cultural layers in the new form of the digital age.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu - Deputy Head of the Department, Department of Culture - Social Affairs of Hai Ba Trung Ward - said that from the perspective of State management of relic information, the website "360° Historical Site of Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi City" allows the management and administration of all records and documents including information and documents on the artifacts of historical relics in a scientific and convenient manner.

The 360° website can be easily integrated into the Ward Portal, applying Hai Ba Trung digital rhythm, Zalo OA of the ward... The 3D digitalization combined with 360° virtual space will preserve the original features of the relic, artifacts, antiques... to facilitate the maintenance and restoration of relics and artifacts in the future.
