According to the plan chosen by the two ministries when contributing opinions to the Ministry of Home Affairs on the holiday and Tet schedule for 2026-2027, the working day of Monday, November 23, 2026 will be exchanged for compensatory work on Saturday, November 28, 2026. Thanks to that, the Vietnam Culture Day holiday on November 24 lasts for 4 consecutive days, from Saturday, November 21, to the end of Tuesday, November 24.
2026 is the first year that Vietnam Culture Day November 24th is implemented as a full-wage holiday. The Ministry of Home Affairs proposed two options, including one day off according to regulations or swapping working days to create a 4-day holiday.
For the 2027 Dinh Mui Tet holiday, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism chose a 7-day holiday option, from February 4, 2027 to the end of February 10, 2027, corresponding to from December 29 of the Binh Ngo year to the end of January 5 of the Dinh Mui year. Civil servants and public employees return to work from the 6th day of Tet.
This option is among the two Tet holiday options proposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The remaining option has a total holiday time of 10 days, from February 5, 2027 to the end of February 14, 2027, corresponding to the end of December 30 of the Binh Ngo year to the end of January 9 of the Dinh Mui year. With this option, the working day of Friday, February 12, 2027 is exchanged for a weekly holiday of Saturday, February 27, 2027. Civil servants and public employees return to work from the 10th day of the first lunar month.
For the National Day of September 2, 2026, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also agreed on a plan to have an additional holiday on September 3. When adding two weekly holidays, the holiday lasts 4 consecutive days, from September 2 to the end of September 5.
According to regulations, every year the Ministry of Home Affairs advises the Prime Minister to decide on the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday schedule based on the synthesis of opinions from ministries and sectors. Regarding the 2026-2027 holiday schedule, the Ministry of Home Affairs has sent documents to collect opinions from 13 agencies, ministries and sectors from August 4 and is expected to complete the collection of opinions before August 10.
In the draft Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Labor Code, the Law on Archives, the Law on Gender Equality and the Law on Red Cross Activities, the Ministry of Home Affairs proposed assigning the Minister of Home Affairs to notify the holiday and Tet schedule before September 30 of the immediately preceding year, after the Prime Minister decides on the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday schedule.
