Connecting calligraphy with music and heritage space in Hanoi

KHÁNH AN |

From September 15 to 19, at Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam, the program "An Nhien Character" will take place within the framework of the Thang Long - Hanoi Festival II in 2026.

Inspired by the beauty of writing and the cultural space of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam, the program introduces to the public Han Nom calligraphy and Quoc Ngu calligraphy, combining calligraphy performances and exchanges with folk music performances, creating a cultural space rich in identity, close and experienced for people, domestic and international tourists.

Organizing "An Nhien Character" in the Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam space creates a natural connection between calligraphy art and Taoism and Thang Long - Hanoi civilization.

Here, the public has the opportunity to admire the beauty of writing, and at the same time learn about the cultural and spiritual values conveyed through each stroke.

In performance activities, calligraphy practitioners directly practice writing, expressing style, personality and technique on many different materials and products. The public has the opportunity to observe the formation process of a work, from the selection of letters, composition to each movement of the writer.

Clubs and calligraphy practitioners also have the opportunity to meet, exchange, and share experiences, thereby strengthening connections in the practicing community.

Experiential activities, conversations and exchanges contribute to bringing calligraphy art closer to the public, especially young people and tourists who approach this art form for the first time.

Interspersed in the series of activities are folk music performances, creating a harmony between lines, letters and sounds in the heritage space.

The public can both observe the strokes of the pen that are formed directly and feel the sound of traditional music in the space of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam. Through this, "Net thu An Nhien" aims to approach heritage closely, emotionally and in line with the cultural experience needs of the contemporary public.

Through a series of exhibitions, performances, exchanges and art performances, the program contributes to strengthening the connection between calligraphy, heritage, tourism and cultural creative activities, thereby promoting the image of Hanoi as elegant, civilized, rich in identity and introducing the values of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam to the public.

With the criteria of ensuring artistic quality, aesthetics and cultural identity of Thang Long - Hanoi, "The word An Nhien" contributes to enriching cultural and artistic activities at the Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam National Special Relic Site within the framework of the 2nd Thang Long - Hanoi Festival in 2026.

The program is also an opportunity to honor calligraphy art, connect clubs and communities practicing calligraphy, and contribute to preserving and promoting heritage values in today's life, so that traditional values continue to naturally exist in the contemporary cultural space of the Capital.
