On February 8th, the Management Board of Tam Coc - Bich Dong Tourist Area (Ninh Binh) organized the charity program "Ten thousand green banh chung" on the occasion of the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026.
The Organizing Committee prepared 4 tons of sticky rice, more than 1 ton of green beans, 800kg of pork, dong leaves, raw materials, 60 pots of 100-liter banh chung from many days before that.
At the program, officials and staff of the Tam Coc - Bich Dong Tourist Area Management Board, companion units, members of charity clubs and tourists together wrapped 10,000 Chung cakes to send to households in difficult circumstances inside and outside the province.
Many international tourists coming to Tam Coc - Bich Dong tourist area also participate in experiencing wrapping banh chung and learning about the meaning of the green banh chung on the traditional Tet holiday of the Vietnamese people.
Mr. Philip - a tourist from England - shared: "Vietnamese Tet always contains many good things. My family and I are lucky to come to Vietnam on this occasion. This is the first time I have known about banh chung, a cultural feature imbued with Vietnamese national identity during the traditional Tet holiday that no other place in the world has.
Mr. Mai Quoc Dat, Managing Director of Tam Coc - Bich Dong Tourist Area Management Board, said that the funding for organizing this charity activity is socialized from businesses, members of clubs, and philanthropists inside and outside the province.
This is the third time the charity banh chung wrapping program has been organized at Tam Coc - Bich Dong tourist area on a large scale. In addition to giving banh chung on the occasion of the traditional Tet of the nation, the Tourist Area Management Board also coordinates with local authorities to give meaningful gifts to households in difficult circumstances, towards a peaceful and good new year" - Mr. Dat said.
The charity program shows concern, spirit of mutual affection and love for those in difficult circumstances. At the same time, it continues, maintains and promotes the culture, image, and traditional activities of Vietnamese people every Tet holiday, Spring comes, especially the custom of wrapping banh chung.
Mr. Luu Xuan Tinh - Vice Chairman of Nam Hoa Lu Ward People's Committee - shared that the program is a deeply humane activity to wrap and give banh chung and Tet gifts to disadvantaged people, poor people, policy families, and patients.
Thereby, contributing to spreading the spirit of mutual affection, sharing love, bringing a warm and fulfilling Tet to people in difficult circumstances and preserving and promoting the tradition of "healthy leaves protect torn leaves", the custom of wrapping banh chung on Tet.
The program will also contribute to strengthening the connection between organizations, individuals, armed forces, businesses and people. At the same time, it introduces Vietnamese culture and image in general and Ninh Binh in particular to domestic and international tourists.
