On October 22, speaking at a press conference to inform about the plan to arrange ticket sales and inspection points at Nui Sam National Tourist Area, Mr. Truong Huu Tien - Director of Nui Sam National Tourist Area Management Board informed some outstanding contents about the unit's operations in the first 9 months of 2025.
Most notably, the number of tourists is decreasing sharply.
Accordingly, in the third quarter of 2025, 85,300 tickets were sold with a total amount of VND 2.255 billion. The cumulative number of tickets sold in the first 9 months was 1,516.450 tickets, down down down 24% over the same period in 2024, which was 2,004,850 tickets; the fee collected to visit Nui Sam National Tourist Area was VND 29.387 billion, down down 24% over the same period was VND 38.587 billion.
This is considered a rare thing in a tourist area that can attract 5 million visitors/year, especially this is the first year UNESCO has recognized the Ba Chua Xu Nui Sam Festival - one of the 5 national relics located in the Tourist Area - in the list of Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
There are many reasons for the decline in revenue, notably the decrease in the number of visitors. According to data from the Statistical Team No. 4 of An Giang province, from January 5, 2025 to September 5, 2025, Nui Sam National Tourist Area welcomed 4,096,615 visitors, down 0.86% over the same period in 2024 of 4,712,670 visitors. In addition, there is also a reason from the reduction in fee collection being higher than the reduction in the number of customers.
According to Mr. Tien, from the end of April 2025, the People's Committee of An Giang province will implement the order to dismantle the warning sign and traffic regulation point at the intersection of Tan Lo Kieu Luong and Le Dai Cuong streets. Taking advantage of this opportunity, vehicles have chosen the Tan Lo Kieu Luong route to enter Nui Sam National Tourist Area to avoid toll collection points, leading to reduced revenue, causing difficulties in the unit's operating costs when the Provincial People's Committee assigned autonomy from November 2024.
This change will likely continue to affect at least the end of 2025. Therefore, according to Mr. Tien, it is likely that the total revenue for the whole year of 2025 will not reach the estimate.
According to the forecast, in the last 3 months of the year, total revenue from ticket sales was only about 01 billion VND, bringing the total revenue for the whole year of 2025 to about 30.5 billion VND, reaching 67.7% of the assigned estimate of 45 billion VND.
