According to the latest report from the US National Hurricane Center (NHC), two tropical storms Daniel and Carlotta are active in the eastern Pacific Ocean, affecting neighboring areas.
Storm Daniel: Moving slowly but showing signs of strengthening
At 8 p.m. PDT (Pacific time), the center of storm Daniel was located near coordinates 12.3 degrees North longitude; 130.5 degrees West longitude.
In the past few hours, the storm has moved little, but is expected to begin moving north at a speed of about 4 km/h.
Forecasts show the storm is likely to turn northeast today and tomorrow at a faster speed.
Currently, Daniel maintains peak winds at 65 km/h with stronger gusts.
Experts predict the storm may strengthen slightly over the next day or so, before gradually weakening. The area affected by strong winds like a tropical storm extends up to 110 km from the center of the storm.
Storm Carlotta: Weakening rapidly
Meanwhile, at 2 a.m. PDT (Pacific time), the center of storm Carlotta was located near coordinates 19.9 degrees North latitude; 123.0 degrees West longitude. The storm is moving west-northwest at a speed of about 19 km/h.
This movement is expected to continue through Monday, then gradually shift west on Monday night and Tuesday.
Carlotta has weakened significantly with peak winds dropping to 110 km/h. It is forecast that the storm will continue to weaken in the coming days and may become a tropical depression on August 6. The area affected by strong winds like a tropical storm spreads up to 150 km from the center of the storm.
Although both storms are far from shore, experts still warn of the risk of large waves. Specifically, large waves created by Carlotta along the southern coast of the Baja California Peninsula (Mexico) are expected to decrease today.
Residents and visitors in coastal areas are advised to monitor updates from local weather agencies and follow safety instructions.
Authorities will continue to closely monitor the developments of these two storms and update information regularly to ensure safety.
