According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the afternoon of June 9, a low pressure area is operating in the Northeast area of the North East Sea. The center of the low pressure is located at about 22.5-23.5 degrees North latitude - 115.5-116.5 degrees East longitude.
Due to the influence of the low pressure area combined with the activity of monsoons, the Northern Gulf area has recorded strong northeast winds of level 5, sometimes level 6. In the sea areas of the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from Quang Tri to Da Nang, the Northern East Sea area (including the Hoang Sa special zone), the sea area from Ca Mau to An Giang and the Gulf of Thailand, showers and thunderstorms appeared.
Forecast for the night of June 9 and day of June 10, the northeastern sea area of the Northern East Sea continues to have strong southwest winds of level 6, gusts of level 7-8, rough seas. Sea waves are 2-3m high. From June 10, wind intensity tends to gradually decrease.
In addition, on the night of June 9 and the day of June 10, the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from Quang Tri to Da Nang, the sea area from Lam Dong to Ca Mau, from Ca Mau to An Giang, the Gulf of Thailand and the areas of the North East Sea and South East Sea (including Hoang Sa special zone and Truong Sa special zone) will continue to have scattered showers and thunderstorms.
The meteorological agency warns that in thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes and strong gusts of wind at level 7-8, causing danger to maritime activities.
Forecast for the next 24 hours, strong winds in sea areas will gradually decrease. However, the level of disaster risk due to strong winds at sea is still level 2.
Meteorological experts recommend that all ships operating in the Northern East Sea, the Gulf of Tonkin and sea areas with thunderstorms should regularly monitor weather developments, proactively stay away from strong thunderstorm areas to limit the risk of encountering tornadoes, strong gusts of wind and high waves.
In particular, tourist ships, transport ships and fishermen fishing at sea need to maintain contact with the mainland, ensuring safety measures in the face of adverse weather developments.
The meteorological agency forecasts that in June 2026, storms/tropical depressions are likely to appear in the East Sea area at a level equivalent to the average of many years in the same period (TBNN in the East Sea area is 1.1 storms and making landfall in Vietnam is 0.3 storms).
