In 2023, more than 3,100 households experienced domestic violence with more than 3,200 cases. Of the nearly 3,200 victims of domestic violence, 2,600 are female and 565 are male. Compared to 2022, the number of cases and victims of domestic violence have decreased, however, the rate of male victims shows signs of increasing compared to last year.
Talking to Lao Dong reporters, married men aged 30 to 40 shared their explanations for this issue.
Mr. Thanh Minh (Long Bien District) shared the reason why men are experiencing increased domestic violence because: "Due to increasingly high feminism combined with the issue of toxic feminism, men are experiencing a lot of mental violence.
Toxic feminism means everything is pushed very far in an extreme way. This problem is currently developing very well".
Referring to scientific documents, Mr. Thanh Minh said that in fact, it is more difficult for men to release negative emotions than for women. And, it is very difficult for men to share with women when they are in conflict.
Therefore, when faced with domestic violence, according to Mr. Thanh Minh, most men just keep quiet.
On the contrary, Mr. Chi Cong (Binh Thanh District - Ho Chi Minh City) denied that gender equality or feminism are the factors that increase domestic violence among men.
Mr. Chi Cong said: "According to recent reports, it seems that the number of cases of domestic violence against men is showing signs of increasing. However, this cannot be simply summarized because the requirement of gender equality or feminism is increasingly promoted.
Because promoting gender equality not only helps improve the status of women but also benefits society in general, including men, as well as the LGBT community.
Domestic violence is a complex, serious and multidimensional social problem. Therefore, the assessment that men are increasingly victims of domestic violence is just an opposite and subjective opinion of a group of departments with the same viewpoint, not expressing the objectivity as well as the will to advance of society in general". Mr. Minh Tri (Thanh Xuan District) commented that men are often subject to more mental violence than physical violence.
Regarding physical violence, men are often physically affected but not significantly because women's health and physical strength are often much weaker than men.
According to Mr. Minh Tri, women often "physiologically impact" men by punching, scratching or slapping them but do not cause serious injuries. Women victims of domestic violence often suffer much more serious injuries and losses.
Men can only be scolded, scolded, and lamented about their salary, income, and responsibilities towards their children in the family by their wives. If comparing the issue of domestic violence, women are accounting for a much higher proportion and are suffering from much more serious physical pain.
Whether men or women are victims of domestic violence, they need to be listened to, supported and protected when being abused or abused in the family.
