Recently, the incident involving female singer and rapper Soyeon, the leader of Kpop group (G)I-DLE, discussing the status of her contract with management company Cube Entertainment at a concert that caused a stir.
Soyeon unexpectedly revealed the end date of her contract with Cube through her rap: "The contract will expire in November. Who can stop me?"
After rumors spread that Soyeon was about to leave the company, on August 5, Cube issued a statement: "All members will re-sign their contracts next year, and Jeon Soyeon's mention of the contract ending at the end of this year is just a part of the performance."
The company added: "Due to Soyeon's sudden actions without prior agreement with the company, we are concerned that the company may suffer losses due to false information, so we are issuing this statement."
Cube's statement caused Soyeon to face mixed reactions. Some comments stated that she acted hastily, arbitrarily, and did not consider the opinions of others.
However, on August 6, the leader of (G)I-DLE directly clarified the issue through an Instagram post. She said: "The first thing I care about is how to make the audience feel entertained. The second thing I care about is how to make my group members happier.
Sometimes there are moments that look extreme and lead to negative reactions, but I didn't intentionally lie or want to harm anyone, or do anything wrong that would make my conscience troubled.
In this performance, I didn't write a lie, nor did I hide it from the company. I showed them dozens of times during rehearsals and stages that it was a collaborative effort from everyone.
Since we have worked together for over 10 years, I never thought badly of the company when reading the news articles in the media. Because if the wording is conveyed incorrectly, it can completely change the meaning. However, I think this will be an opportunity to see the shortcomings in the company's response.
In the future, I will continue to work hard to develop together. I hope to help reduce the uncomfortable feelings of anxiety and hatred from everyone a little bit.
I will work hard so that you don't have to worry. Sorry, Neverland (G)I-DLE fandom, and thank you everyone. I love you."
Fans also discovered that although Cube said Soyeon's rap was not discussed beforehand, the large screen at the concert even displayed the prepared lyrics for this part.
Cube's intentional lie has enraged (G)I-DLE fans.
In the meantime, Soyeon is known as the most important member of (G)I-DLE. She is not only the leader, main rapper, but also responsible for producing most of the group's music products.
According to the media, Soyeon's talent is the most important factor in (G)I-DLE's success as a prominent Kpop female group of the 4th generation.
