In the promotion campaign for the epic blockbuster "The Odyssey", Tom Holland for the first time shared about the story of being ignored for dinner by striker Erling Haaland, an event that once attracted attention on social networks.
Appearing on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon", the actor born in 1996 confirmed that he was the one who actively texted the Manchester City star after the two accidentally met at the Monaco Grand Prix race.
According to Tom Holland, when he saw Haaland in the opposite stand area, he decided to send an invitation to the Norwegian striker for dinner.
However, the message from "Spider-Man" did not receive any response.
Looking back at the incident, Tom Holland said that this experience helped him maintain humility. "I thought I would text and someone would reply. But there was no response, not even a word of refusal," he shared.
However, Tom Holland affirmed that he did not feel uncomfortable and still admired Haaland a lot.
He assesses the Manchester City striker as one of the best strikers in the world today.
On Erling Haaland's side, the Norwegian player had previously also explained the reason for the misunderstanding.
He said he rarely watches movies, so he didn't recognize the message sender as Tom Holland. "I don't watch movies much, so I don't know who it is. Someone texted me to go out for dinner, but because I didn't recognize him, I didn't reply.
Only after the story was recalled did the striker born in 2000 know that the person contacting him was the star of the "Spider-Man" series.
Haaland admitted this was a rather embarrassing situation and said he would actively text back if there was an opportunity.
Haaland is currently the most outstanding player of the Norwegian national team. At the 2026 World Cup, he contributed to bringing the team back to the tournament after 28 years and reaching the quarter-finals for the first time since 1998, before stopping before England.
Besides the side story, Tom Holland is also entering the promotion stage of "The Odyssey" - a new project by director Christopher Nolan adapted from Homer's epic of the same name.
In the film, he plays Telemachus, acting with Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron and Samantha Morton. The work is scheduled to premiere globally from July 17.
After "The Odyssey", Tom Holland will continue to return to the screen with "Spider-Man: Brand New Day".
The film is set four years after the events of "Spider-Man: No Way Home", marking the actor's comeback as Peter Parker. The work stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo and Sadie Sink, expected to be released globally from July 31.
