Park So Dam recently shared about her thyroid cancer treatment period. The disease was discovered when the actress was continuously working, causing her to temporarily stop activities to focus on treatment and recovery.
In the program "Playlist 109", Park So Dam recalled the time she participated in the movie "Phantom". At that time, she was often tired, her fitness could not recover, and her spirit also declined. However, the actress did not think this was a sign of a serious health problem.
Previously, Park So Dam had a tight work schedule, participating in about 6 works in a year. Therefore, she believes that fatigue stems from overwork.
I feel my fitness cannot return to what it used to be, everything is very difficult. I am also sad and depressed," the actress shared.
After completing "Phantom", Park So Dam also felt guilty towards her colleagues. She said she once apologized to her seniors for thinking that she could not complete her work well.
Not long after that, the health check results surprised her when she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Park So Dam had to quickly undergo surgery and temporarily put aside her artistic activities.
Recalling the time she received the news of her illness, the actress born in 1991 said that she had difficulty facing her own emotions. When she was with her mother, she could not look towards her. After informing her father, he quietly left. Park So Dam thought that her father had gone out to cry.
The disease also directly affected the promotion process of "Phantom". Although Park So Dam's image appeared prominently on the movie poster, she could not participate in promotional activities because she had to prioritize treatment.
After surgery, the actress continued to face a long recovery process. Notably, her voice was affected and it took about 6 months to gradually return.
Park So Dam once worried that her voice could not recover after surgery, meaning she could not continue her acting career. For the actress, this is a big worry because her voice is an important part in expressing characters and conveying emotions on screen.
During her recovery, Park So Dam often wore sun protection hats and walked around Seokchon Lake in Seoul (Korea). Park So Dam said she cried a lot during her walks and this is a way to relieve emotions during the time she had to temporarily leave work.

Park So Dam is widely known to international audiences for her role as Kim Ki Jung in "Parasitic". Director Bong Joon Ho's film created a global buzz and became the first non-English film to win the "Best Film" award at the Oscars. The success of the work contributed to making Park So Dam a noteworthy face of Korean cinema.
After the treatment process, Park So Dam gradually returned to artistic activities. She continued to receive new projects, while maintaining a more balanced life instead of just focusing on work.
