"The Roundup: Punishment" contains content about the crime suppression campaign launched by Inspector Ma Suk Do (Ma Dong Seok) and the cybercrime investigation team founded by him, aiming to arrest the largest illegal online gambling organization in Korea. This is the 4th part of "Crime City 4", released in early 2017.
The film was released on April 24, attracting 820,000 viewers, setting a record for the highest opening revenue among films released in 2024.
After only 5 days of release, "The Roundup: Punishment" reached 4.2 million viewers, surpassed the break-even point (3.5 million viewers) and began to make a profit.
Based on Comscore's statistics on April 30, investment and distribution company ABO Entertainment said: "The Roundup: Punishment is leading in global box office revenue after 6 days of release. The film reached 24.36 million USD when released in 6 countries".
The above figure is currently surpassing Zendaya's "Challengers" (24.01 million USD) and "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" (22.1 million USD). Of which, "Challengers" has been available in 53 countries and "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" has been shown in 79 countries.
With "The Roundup: Punishment" competing with the Hollywood blockbuster, Korean fans hope Ma Dong Seok's film will surpass the 10 million viewership mark.
In the film, Lee Joo Bin plays an undercover police officer, the head of a cyber investigation unit. She is the first female character to take on the lead role in solving the case in Ma Dong Seok's "Crime City" series.
At the same time as The Roundup: Punishment was released, Lee Joo Bin also caused a stir with his role as Cheon Da Hye in tvNs hit drama Queen of Tears.
Along with The Roundup: Punishment, Challengers was also released on April 24. The film is about professional tennis champion Mike Faist, who is planning to return to competition with the help of his wife. "Challengers" is the latest work of Luca Guadagnino, who is famous for "Call Me by Your Name".
