The 56th International Chemistry Olympiad was held from July 21 to July 30, 2024, with the participation of teams from 89 countries and territories, with a total of 327 contestants.
The competition included a theoretical exam and a practical exam, each lasting 5 hours. This year's practical exam was evaluated as having many new and current points, requiring contestants to have comprehensive thinking abilities and to perform skills accurately. The theoretical exam addressed the applications of chemistry in industry, environmental pollution treatment, and advanced materials.
In the medal tally compared to other national teams, the Vietnamese team ranked second along with the United States team, only behind the Chinese team.
This year's achievement of the Vietnamese national team continues the impressive achievements at the ICHO competitions over the past 5 years. With a total of 20 contestants from 2020-2024, the Vietnamese team excellently won 20/20 medals, including 17 Gold medals and 3 Silver medals, consistently ranking in the top 3 countries in terms of the number of Gold medals.
This achievement continues to affirm the quality of specialized high school education alongside general education. At the same time, it confirms the right direction in the work of discovering, selecting, and nurturing talented students by the MOET.
