On July 20, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) received information about the official results of the Vietnamese national team participating in the 2024 International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) in the United Kingdom.
The Vietnamese national team has 6 students competing; As a result, 6/6 students won medals and certificates of merit; including: 2 Silver Medals, 3 Bronze Medals, 1 Certificate of Merit.
Tran Duy, 12th grade student, High School for Gifted Pedagogy, Hanoi University of Education: Silver medal;
Tran Minh Hoang, 11th grade student, Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted, Ha Tinh province: Silver medal;
Pham Tran Minh Duc, 12th grade student, Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong city: Bronze medal;
Nguyen Dang Dung, 11th grade student, High School for Gifted Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University: Bronze Medal;
Nguyen Van Hoang, 12th grade student, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, Bac Ninh province: Bronze medal;
Ta Duc Anh, 12th grade student, High School for Gifted Pedagogy, Hanoi University of Education: Certificate of Merit.
The 65th International Mathematics Olympiad will be held from July 11 to July 22, 2024 in the UK with 109 delegations from 109 countries and territories with 609 contestants. Candidates undergo 2 days of official testing, with a duration of 4.5 hours/day.
According to regulations, the Organizing Committee awards official prizes to 50% of participating contestants. In addition, the Organizing Committee awarded certificates of merit to students who achieved the maximum score for a math problem.
This year's exam has a challenging structure for participating students, including Vietnamese students, when there are 2 combinatorial problems, 1 at a medium level and 1 at a difficult level.
Although there were certain difficulties in both exam questions and the health of some students participating in the exam, the Vietnamese student group participating in the exam achieved good results and was highly appreciated in the region.
This result continues to confirm the right direction in the work of detecting, selecting, fostering and training excellent students of the Ministry of Education and Training.
The IMO 2024 Organizing Committee will hold the closing ceremony and awards ceremony on July 21, 2024, starting at 4:00 p.m. (UK time).
