Hanoi University of Science and Technology has just officially announced its plan to organize the 2025 competency assessment exam.
In 2025, the thinking assessment exam is expected to be held in 3 rounds on weekends, each round will have 3-4 test teams at 30 test sites. In addition to the previous test sites, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will open a new test site to support students in the Northwestern provinces (test site in Lao Cai province). Accordingly, the exam can accommodate about 75,000 test takers.
The goal of the Thinking Assessment Test is to assess three basic thinking abilities of students, including: Mathematical Thinking, Reading Comprehension and Scientific Thinking/Problem Solving - important factors that help students learn best in a higher education environment.

To comply with the new general education program of the Ministry of Education and Training, from 2023, the content and format of the thinking assessment test have been implemented according to the design and will remain stable for many years to come.
Accordingly, the test consists of 3 parts: Mathematical Thinking (60 minutes), Reading Comprehension (30 minutes) and Scientific Thinking/Problem Solving (60 minutes). These are 3 independent parts, the test questions will focus on assessing the thinking ability of the candidates in each part, not directly testing the knowledge of any subject. The test is in the form of multiple choice on the computer, the test results will be valid for 2 years to serve the university admission work.
Many modern testing technologies have been applied to the exam such as the technology of building standardized thinking test questions, bridge theory in the exam, technology of scoring according to the multi-parameter IRT model, automatic check-in technology according to CCCD cards integrated with the personal data management system on the National Population Database to identify candidates coming to take the exam to completely prevent proxy exams and cheating in exams...
In 2024, Hanoi University of Science and Technology organized 6 exam sessions on weekends with 30 exam locations each session in Hanoi and 11 provinces and cities including Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Da Nang; serving nearly 50,000 exams with a total of 21,000 candidates.
The exam results have been used by more than 50 universities for university admissions for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Launch of the book "TSA Thinking Assessment Exam Guide"
With the aim of helping candidates better understand the structure and content of the Thinking Assessment Test, familiarize themselves with question types, review instructions, test-taking methods, and analyze illustrative examples, Hanoi University of Science and Technology has compiled and published the "TSA Thinking Assessment Test Handbook".
The Handbook is expected to be officially available at Bach Khoa Publishing House on November 11.
