Teaching hours for teachers
Circular No. 05/2025/TT-BGDDT regulating the working regime for general education and university residents of the Ministry of Education and Training takes effect from April 22, 2025.
According to the circular, the teaching period quota is the total number of theoretical (or practical) truc tiep (or online teaching) that each teacher must teach in 1 school year.
The average teaching period per week for primary school teachers is 23 periods, for secondary school teachers is 19 periods, and for high school teachers is 17 periods;
Teachers at primary boarding schools for ethnic minorities are 21 periods, teachers at secondary boarding schools for ethnic minorities are 17 periods, teachers at secondary boarding schools for ethnic minorities are 17 periods, teachers at secondary boarding schools for ethnic minorities are 15 periods;

In addition to teaching according to the prescribed teaching periods, teachers of ethnic minority boarding schools and ethnic minority boarding schools also participate in performing other tasks of ethnic minority boarding schools and ethnic minority boarding schools, including student management, supervision, student development and organization of special educational activities of ethnic minority boarding schools and ethnic minority boarding schools as assigned by the principal to ensure the overall operation of the school;
Teachers at schools and classes for people with disabilities are 21 periods for primary school, 17 periods for secondary school, and 15 periods for high school;
Teachers at pre-university schools are 12 periods;
Teachers in charge of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers' Team are 02 periods for primary schools with 28 classes or more in regions 2 and 3, 19 classes or more in regions 1; 08 periods for the remaining primary schools.
Based on the implementation zoning plan as prescribed in Circular No. 20/2023/TT-BGDDT dated October 30, 2023 of the Minister of Education and Training providing guidance on job positions and quotas for the number of employees in general education institutions and public specialized schools;
Teachers in charge of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers' Team are 2 periods for secondary schools with 28 classes or more in regions 2 and 3, 19 classes or more in regions 1; 6 periods for the remaining secondary schools;
Teachers in charge of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Team are 2 periods for high schools with many levels of education with a total of 28 primary and secondary school classes or more in regions 2 and 3, 19 classes or more in regions 1; 6 periods for high schools with many remaining levels of education.
Teaching hours for principals and deputy principals
In addition to the task of leading, managing, principals, and vice principals of high schools and universities, reserve schools must teach some periods in the content of the educational program to grasp the content, goals of the educational program, and the learning situation of students to improve the effectiveness of leadership and management.
The average teaching period for a principal in 1 week is 2 periods;
The deputy principal is 4 periods.
Principals and deputy principals are not allowed to convert the teaching period reduction regime for concurrent tasks as prescribed in Articles 9, 10, and 11 of this Circular to replace the teaching period reduction regime prescribed in Clause 3 of this Article.
When teaching at the standard of teaching hours prescribed in Clause 3 of this Article, principals and deputy principals are subject to the provisions of Article 13 of this Circular to calculate the total number of teaching hours when calculating the number of extra teaching hours (if any).
