Students are supported with at least 50% of health insurance contributions

ANH ĐỨC |

Students are supported by the State with at least 50% of the health insurance (HI) contribution level, with a maximum self-contribution amount of 683,100 VND per year.

According to information from Vietnam Social Security (BHXH) on August 11, the health insurance (HI) contribution level of students is currently calculated at 4.5% of the reference level.

With the current reference level equal to the base salary of 2.53 million VND/month, the total health insurance contribution is 113,850 VND per month, equivalent to 1,366,200 VND per year.

However, this is not the entire amount of money that students have to pay themselves.

The state budget supports a minimum of 50% of the contribution level, equivalent to 56,925 VND/month. Thus, if applying a 50% support level, students pay a maximum of 683,100 VND per year.

Students do not necessarily have to pay the full amount at once. According to Vietnam Social Security, students can choose to pay according to a cycle of 3, 6 or 12 months. With 50% self-payment, the corresponding amounts are 170,775 VND, 341,550 VND and 683,100 VND respectively.

According to Vietnam Social Security, participants may be paid 100% of medical examination and treatment costs by the health insurance fund in some cases, such as examination at the initial level medical examination and treatment facility; outpatient examination at regional general clinics; or one-time medical examination and treatment cost lower than 15% of the base salary, currently equivalent to 379,500 VND.

People participating in health insurance for 5 consecutive years or more are also entitled to 100% in cases where the co-payment amount of medical examinations and treatments in accordance with regulations in the year exceeds 6 months of basic salary, equivalent to 15.18 million VND. Other normal cases enjoy 80% of the costs within the scope of health insurance.

In case of emergency, people with health insurance are entitled to medical examination and treatment at any medical facility. Patients need to present health insurance card information and personal identification documents with photos before the end of the treatment period to fully enjoy their rights.

When going for examination, students can use valid health insurance cards or card images on VssID accompanied by photo-copied documents. Chip-based ID cards or VNeID level 2 accounts that have integrated health insurance information are also accepted.
