According to information from Vietnam Social Security (BHXH), the validity of health insurance cards (BHYT) for students is determined differently depending on each group.
For 12th grade students, the health insurance card is valid until the end of September 30 of that year.
For final year students, the card is valid until the last day of the month ending the course. Vietnam Social Security encourages 12th grade students and final year students to pay health insurance until December 31st to enjoy the health insurance contribution support level of the final school year, while ensuring health insurance benefits are maintained continuously.
The regulation also clearly states the card validity period for students at the beginning level.
Specifically, for first-grade students, the health insurance card is valid from October 1st of the first year of primary school. In case the child is born after September 30th, the card is valid from the last day of the month the child is 72 months old.
For first-year students, health insurance cards are valid from the date of enrollment, except for cases where cards issued when they were still in 12th grade are still valid.
For children under 6 years old, if born from September 30 or earlier, the health insurance card is valid from the date of birth to the end of September 30 of the year the child is 72 months old. Children born after September 30 are allowed to use the card from the date of birth to the end of the last day of the month the child is 72 months old.
Vietnam Social Security said that students register to participate in health insurance at educational institutions or vocational education institutions where they are studying.
