Vinh City residents petition to open more high schools

Nghe An – People petition to expand or open more branches of high schools in Vinh city.

On 5.15, information from the People's Committee of Nghe An province said that it had responded to the petition of Vinh City residents about expanding the scale or building more high schools.

Residents of Le Mao Ward, Vinh City reported that many parents are worried and stressed when their children take the exam from grade 9 to grade 10 because the passing rate of public schools is still inadequate between the enrollment target and the actual number of students; in recent years, the number of students taking the exam to enter high schools in Vinh City has increased sharply, while the number of schools cannot meet the demand. Proposal to expand or open more branches of high schools in Vinh City.

According to the People's Committee of Nghe An province, in recent school years, to meet the learning needs of Vinh City students, the Provincial People's Committee has approved a development plan for high schools in Vinh City and surrounding areas in the direction of increasing classes and increasing student numbers.

In the 2024-2025 school year alone, Huynh Thuc Khang, Ha Huy Tap, and Le Viet Thuat High Schools each added 3 classes, and recruited 3 10th grade classes from Vinh University Practical High School, thus increasing the number of public 12 10th grade classes.

In addition, consider increasing the enrollment quota for grade 10 for public high schools near Vinh City, in the areas of Hung Nguyen and Nghi Loc. With these measures, it has contributed to reducing the pressure on public grade 10 for students in Vinh City.

According to statistics, after 3 years, the number of 9th graders in the whole province will peak at 72,618 students, of which Vinh City has more than 9,000 students. The scale of 70,000 9th graders will be maintained for many years.

To develop the scale of education in accordance with the population size and development trends, the education sector of Nghe An province will implement the following key solutions:

When merging Cua Lo town and 4 communes of Nghi Loc into Vinh, Vinh city will have 6 public high schools, increasing the number of public schools per population.

Actively prepare conditions to ensure the opening of branch 2 of Huynh Thuc Khang High School in Nghi An commune.

Direct high schools to strengthen facilities and build more classrooms where possible to increase student enrollment.

When Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted moves to a new location, a plan will be implemented to have Dang Thai Mai Middle School take over Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and develop Dang Thai Mai Middle School into a joint middle and high school.

Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and Vinh University High School for the Gifted will gradually increase the number of classes, creating learning opportunities for students in Vinh City; in addition, non-public schools with good educational quality such as Phuong Hoang High School, Nguyen Truong To High School, Hecman Gmeiner High School, and Viet Anh High School can increase the number of classes and students.

At the same time, call on domestic and foreign investors to invest in building more schools in the area to socialize education, creating more learning opportunities for students.

Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long said: "Reducing pressure on students in Vinh City when they move on to high school is a major concern of the province. With many synchronous solutions, the province is determined to create the best conditions to increase the scale of high school schools and classes in Vinh City."
