On November 30, the Department of Transport of Quang Tri province confirmed that provincial road DT.585C in Cam Lo district (Quang Tri province) is continuously showing signs of deterioration and damage.
The above route is more than 3km long, put into operation from September 2022, the road is designed to be 12m wide, the road surface is 7m wide with asphalt concrete. Provincial road DT.585C connects 2 national highways through Cam Lo district, shortening the distance so it is chosen by many means of transport for circulation.

But since the beginning of 2023, when the Cam Lo - La Son Expressway came into operation, many heavy-duty vehicles have been traveling through the provincial road, causing the road surface to gradually deteriorate. By the end of 2023, many sections of the road were cracked, sunken, and had deep holes, making it impossible to see that it was an asphalt concrete road.
The Quang Tri Provincial Department of Transport has carried out repairs, but by the end of November 2024, the road surface was covered with cracks, peeling, rutting and potholes. There were many deep grooves on both sides of the road, and in some places the asphalt layer had peeled off, revealing layers of gravel and rocks.

Mr. Le Nhat Tien - Chairman of Cam Thuy Commune People's Committee (Cam Lo District) - said that when the provincial road was put into use, local people were happy because it was convenient to travel and saved a lot of time because they didn't have to go around in circles. But the joy didn't last long, when they saw a convoy of vehicles coming from Cam Lo - La Son Expressway, or vehicles from National Highway 1 passing by to get on the expressway, making everyone worried. In addition, the road quickly deteriorated, and after a few days or half a month, it would break again, making people frustrated. During the rainy season, the road became a dike, causing flood water to drain slowly, so the upstream area was flooded.
"I hope the authorities will take measures to fix the damage to the traffic route, but people keep giving their opinions" - Mr. Le Nhat Tien informed.

The leader of the Department of Transport of Quang Tri province said that the provincial road was designed as a level III plain road, but due to the sudden increase in heavy vehicles traveling on the road, the road structure was affected. The Department of Transport of the province has directed the Traffic Maintenance Management Board and the road management unit to review and repair the remaining damage on the route, but due to limited maintenance funding, the damage cannot be completely fixed.
