Agribank unexpectedly increased interest rates
According to Lao Dong, on October 16, the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) issued a new online deposit interest rate schedule as follows:
Interest Rate for 1-month term deposits increased by 0.1 percentage point, at 2.2%/year.
Interest Rate for 3-month term deposits increased by 0.1 percentage point, at 2.7%/year.
Interest Rate for 6-9 month term deposits is 3.2%/year.
Interest Rate for 12-month term deposits is 4.7%/year.
Interest Rate for 24-month term deposits is 4.8%/year.
However, Agribank's savings interest rates at the counter have not changed, currently fluctuating between 1.7 - 4.8%/year.
Interest Rate for 1-month term deposits is 1.7%/year.
Interest Rate for 3-month term deposits is 2.0%/year.
Interest Rate for 6 - 9 month term deposits is 3.0%/year.
Interest Rate for deposits with terms greater than 12 months is 4.7%/year.
Interest Rate for deposits with terms of 24-36 months is 4.8%/year.
"Compare" interest rates of the big guys
Interest Rate for online deposits with a term of 24-36 months at VietinBank is currently at 5%/year, the highest among the Big 4 banks including BIDV, VietinBank, Vietcombank, and Agribank. At BIDV, the interest rate for this term is 4.9%/year, Agribank is 4.8%/year, and Vietcombank is the lowest at 4.7%/year.
Notably, for the 3-month term, Agribank has the highest interest rate, listed at 2.5%/year, higher than the 2.3%/year of VietinBank and BIDV, while Vietcombank only reaches 1.9%/year.
In general, Vietcombank often lists lower interest rates than other banks, while Agribank, VietinBank, and BIDV's interest rates are quite similar, except for long terms of 24-36 months.
