Domestic coffee market: Prices move sideways but remain high
Domestic coffee prices today have not fluctuated compared to yesterday, maintaining the highest level in many years.
Dak Nong: 129,000 VND/kg;
Dak Lak, Gia Lai: 128,800 VND/kg;
Lam Dong: 127,800 VND/kg.
Supply remains tight as purchasing and export activities are disrupted by the Lunar New Year holiday. In addition, unfavorable weather conditions in the Central Highlands have also affected the quality of coffee preservation, adding pressure to short-term supply.
Many experts believe that if farmers continue to hoard coffee, coffee prices could reach VND130,000/kg in the next few days, especially when the market begins to enter the peak purchasing period after Tet.
World Coffee Market: Arabica Continues to Increase, Robusta Adjusts Slightly
On the London floor, Robusta coffee prices fell slightly after reaching a historic high:
Delivery March 2025: 5,718 USD/ton, down 16 USD/ton.
Delivery in May 2025: 5,694 USD/ton, down 15 USD/ton.
Delivery in July 2025: 5,618 USD/ton, down 7 USD/ton.
Delivery September 2025: 5,523 USD/ton, down 1 USD/ton.
In contrast, Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor continued to increase sharply:
March 2025 delivery: 377.85 cents/lb, up 4.45 cents/lb (+1.19%).
May 2025 delivery: 371.35 cents/lb, up 3.20 cents/lb (+0.87%).
July 2025 delivery: 364.05 cents/lb, up 2.75 cents/lb (+0.76%).
September 2025 delivery: 354.55 cents/lb, up 2.85 cents/lb (+0.81%).
The correction in Robusta prices came as the USD index (DXY) rose to a one-week high, prompting hedge funds and investors to liquidate some of their long positions. In addition, Robusta exports from Sumatra (Indonesia) in December 2024 increased by 345% to 20,947 tons, contributing to easing short-term supply pressure.
Meanwhile, Arabica prices continued to rise as supplies from Brazil, the world’s largest Arabica producer, continued to decline. In addition, US-Colombia trade tensions also affected the market, with reports that the US government may impose a 25% tariff on goods imported from Colombia, pushing Arabica prices higher.
Coffee price forecast: The 130,000 VND/kg mark may soon appear
With limited supply and increasing demand, domestic coffee prices may continue to remain high. If this trend continues, domestic coffee prices may reach VND130,000/kg in the coming days.
However, experts also warn of the possibility of a downward adjustment if investment funds and speculators liquidate their buying positions after a series of hot days. Therefore, coffee growers need to closely monitor market developments to have a reasonable selling plan to avoid risks when prices adjust.
