World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices fell sharply in the first morning session of the week. At 07:53 (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 80.70 USD/barrel, down 3.97 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 4.69%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 84.67 USD/barrel, and opened today's session at 79.37 USD/barrel.
Brent oil was at 83.98 USD/barrel, down 6.14 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 6.81%. Brent oil closed the previous trading session at 90.12 USD/barrel, and opened today's session at 82.11 USD/barrel.
World oil prices fell sharply after the US announced the temporary suspension of airstrikes targeting Iran, amid signs of the possibility of reaching an agreement between the parties.
President Donald Trump said that the agreement being promoted includes the immediate, complete and comprehensive opening of the Strait of Hormuz, while ending the nuclear threat from Iran. However, he also emphasized that the suspension of military operations depends on the ability of the parties to reach an agreement soon.
This development helps tensions in the Middle East temporarily cool down, pulling oil prices down sharply and easing concerns about the risk of inflation. The fact that the parties have not resumed military operations in recent days also contributes to reducing "risk compensation" in the oil market.
However, the risks to global energy supplies have not been completely eliminated. The flow of ships through the Strait of Hormuz remains low, while Houthi attacks in the Red Sea continue to affect maritime transport activities.
