Coffee export turnover in Dak Lak reached over 900 million USD

THANH QUỲNH |

Dak Lak - In the 2023 - 2024 crop year, coffee export turnover reached 915.795 million USD, accounting for 16.9% of the whole country.

On the morning of November 29, information from the Department of Industry and Trade of Dak Lak province said that in the 2023-2024 coffee crop, the whole province exported 264,404 tons of coffee (down 54,095 tons compared to the previous crop), accounting for 17.9% of the whole country.

Export turnover reached 915.795 million USD (an increase of 168.238 million USD compared to the previous crop year), accounting for 16.9% of the whole country.

Compared to the 2022-2023 crop year, the province's coffee exports decreased in volume but increased in value due to the continuous increase in coffee prices in the last crop year. Of which, green coffee exports reached 783.895 million USD, an increase of 24.5%.

Instant coffee exports reached 131.9 million USD, accounting for 14.4% of the province's total coffee export turnover. Compared to the 2022-2023 coffee crop, instant coffee export turnover increased by 14.173 million USD.

Dak Lak 2-9 Import-Export Company Limited continues to be the leading unit in the province in exporting coffee beans with 93,510 tons, reaching a turnover of 304.448 million USD.

Next is Sucden Coffee Vietnam Co., Ltd. with coffee export volume reaching 35,769 tons, turnover of 108.317 million USD.

Currently, Dak Lak coffee still focuses on exporting coffee beans to traditional markets such as Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Italy, the US, etc. Dak Lak is promoting the exploitation of new markets with great potential in regions such as Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.

Dak Lak also effectively exploits market opening opportunities from international economic integration commitments in free trade agreements. Thereby, boosting exports to major market areas such as the EU, ASEAN, Northeast Asia, Oceania, etc.

Although coffee exports have shown good signs, the industry and trade sector assessed that the province's coffee exports are mainly coffee beans (raw products).

Although the proportion of processed coffee exported annually has increased, it still accounts for a small proportion of the province's total coffee export turnover.

Every year, the province's direct coffee export still accounts for a low proportion compared to output due to the lack of large export enterprises and hubs, and no enterprises investing in expanding large-scale export activities.

Small production facilities face many difficulties in terms of capital, processing equipment and product output.

Some businesses are located in the province but transport coffee to corporations or general companies in provinces and cities with seaports for export and customs declaration...
