On February 5, informing reporters, Mr. Hoang Khanh Duy - Deputy Head of the Management Board of Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone - said that agricultural product export activities, including durian to China, are going smoothly.
Accordingly, from February 1 to 3, a total of 26 trucks carrying durian cleared customs through the province's two main border gates, including 14 trucks through Huu Nghi border gate and 12 trucks through Tan Thanh border gate, with a volume of hundreds of tons.
"These are all pre-registered shipments," Mr. Duy informed.
China-accredited durian testing laboratories in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and Ca Mau have officially come into operation.
Previously, on January 10, China required Vietnamese and Thai durians to have additional inspection certificates for yellow O (a substance that can cause cancer) after detecting residues of this substance in a shipment of Thai durians at the end of 2024.
However, it was not until January 17 that China approved the list of 7 Vietnamese laboratories, causing the testing to be delayed.
This has led to many shipments of Vietnamese durian being temporarily suspended from export, causing difficulties for businesses. Some containers had to be turned back for freezing or domestic consumption, including a shipment worth up to 3 billion VND.
Faced with this situation, Lang Son province has proactively negotiated with Chinese authorities to speed up the customs clearance process. At the same time, a plan to separate and regulate cargo vehicles has also been implemented early to avoid prolonged congestion.
Regarding the reflection of some businesses about difficulties in customs clearance of durian, Mr. Duy affirmed that exported goods must meet the requirements of the importing country, including testing standards for cadmium, O gold...
“Lang Son province always creates the best conditions for businesses, but businesses also need to ensure full compliance with regulations and standards when exporting to China,” emphasized the Deputy Head of the Management Board of Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone.
Previously, after discovering that Thai durian contained yellow O, a substance that can cause cancer, China immediately tightened regulations, causing this Vietnamese product to also be affected, forcing some businesses to stop exporting.
