The area around Han Market, the street that specializes in selling flowers, was crowded this afternoon, packed with buyers. According to the vendors here, since December 20, many people have been buying flowers, but mainly for offerings before Tet, and it was only this morning that it started to get crowded and bustling, with a large number of flowers bought.
“In the past, the flowers sold were mainly chrysanthemums, but now customers choose to buy more lilies and gladiolus to display on Tet,” said Ms. Nguyen Anh Chi, a flower stall vendor in this area.
At Hoa Cuong market (the city's largest unit market), traders here said that flowers here are transported from Da Lat, mainly wholesale to markets in the city. By this morning, the number of retail buyers had gradually increased.
Mr. Nguyen Huy Quan - a trader at Hoa Cuong market said: "Usually we only sell from late at night to early in the morning, on days near Tet like this, we transport more flowers, then sell them at affordable prices so that retail customers can also buy. We sell until the evening, when the flowers run out, we transport more."
Most flowers are the same price as last year's Tet and mostly only range from 10,000 to 500,000 VND/bunch depending on the type. Lilies range from 180,000 to 400,000 VND/bunch; gladiolus from 50,000 to 150,000 VND/bunch.
For chrysanthemums, the prices are more diverse and affordable. Small net chrysanthemums cost only 20,000 to 30,000 VND/bunch, large net chrysanthemums cost 50,000 to 60,000 VND/bunch.
Ms. Linh Anh (a resident of Cam Le district) chose to buy flowers at Hoa Cuong market with the hope that the price would be cheaper than at markets near her home.
“Every year, I usually buy flowers at the market near my house. This year, I tried going to Hoa Cuong market and had more choices. The flowers here are rich and diverse, the prices are also reasonable so it is easy to buy. I also took the opportunity to buy fruits and some other things for the New Year's Eve offering,” Linh Anh shared.
According to the traders, Tet flowers are only sold today and tomorrow, December 29, then they will be closed and will be sold again around the 3rd day of Tet. Therefore, everyone is trying to sell, promote, and reduce prices to please buyers in order to quickly sell all the flowers that the traders have imported.
