Tet reserves this year increase by 10-30%
At MM Mega Market Vietnam, the total Tet inventory this year increased by 10-30%, depending on industry groups compared to Tet 2025. In which, the group of essential goods, confectionery and processed food increased sharply due to the prolonged Tet holiday.
Dry and non-food goods are stockpiled at about 30,000 tons, fresh food at about 2,800 tons, to ensure stable supply throughout the peak shopping season. In parallel, businesses are implementing strict food safety controls throughout the supply chain, from supplier evaluation, warehousing to sales.
Sensitive commodity groups such as vegetables and fruits, vermicelli, pho, ready-to-eat food, cakes and jams are strengthened to take samples for inspection, labeling and legal documents.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Toan - CEO of MM Mega Market Vietnam - said that ensuring supply and maintaining price stability not only brings benefits to consumers but also demonstrates the responsibility of businesses in contributing to market stabilization at the end of the year.
At the Saigon Co.op system, from mid-January to near Tet, a series of discount programs are implemented, with incentives of up to 50% for confectionery, dried jam, dried seeds, soft drinks, spices, cold cuts, sausage. Fresh foods are rotated to be discounted up to 20%, accompanied by agricultural products; garment groups are discounted up to 40%.

Strengthening food safety control
Faced with the complicated developments of the year-end market, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has issued an urgent document requesting departments, branches, commune, ward, and special zone People's Committees to strengthen management, administration and price stabilization of the market during the 2026 Binh Ngo Lunar New Year. The city implements a daily price reporting regime throughout the Tet peak period, from the beginning of February to after Tet, in order to promptly grasp the situation, proactively manage and maintain market stability.
According to Mr. Tran Phu Cuong - Head of the Sub-Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine of Ho Chi Minh City, due to high consumption demand, the city imports more than 3,300 pigs, about 79,000 live poultry and poultry products from provinces every day.
In the peak period of serving the upcoming Tet market, in addition to encouraging livestock and poultry farms in the area to increase their herds, the sub-department also implemented many groups of solutions to ensure food safety.
Notably, the unit coordinates with functional forces to strengthen the control of animal products imported from other localities through quarantine and transportation; at the same time, inspect invoices, documents, origin and storage conditions.
To ensure food safety during the Lunar New Year and the 2026 Spring Festival season, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety also established inspection teams, focusing on products that consume a lot such as meat and meat products, beer and alcohol, soft drinks, cakes, jams, candies, vegetables and fruits, food additives and food service business establishments.
Functional forces also focus on strictly controlling production and import outlets, wholesale markets, commercial centers, supermarkets, traditional markets and food transportation activities; and at the same time strengthen the detection and handling of counterfeit goods, poor quality goods, expired goods, and goods of unknown origin.
