Gasoline is a decisive factor in the performance of the fuel injection engine. However, using poor quality gasoline for a long time not only makes the car operate unstable but can also cause damage to a series of details in the fuel system, leading to large repair costs.
According to Mr. Tran Minh Tien - lecturer of Automotive Technology, Dung Quat College of Technology (Quang Ngai), the first affected part will be the gasoline pump cluster placed inside the fuel tank.
This cluster includes gasoline pumps, rough filters, fuel level sensors and many other details. Placing the pump submerged in fuel is to take advantage of the gasoline itself to cool, helping the pump operate stably and extend its lifespan.
When using poor quality gasoline, impurities and additives that do not meet standards may depose, forming a black sediment layer with high adhesion similar to asphalt. Over time, these substances cling tightly to the rough filter net, reducing fuel flow through, and at the same time clogging the filter net, reducing fuel circulation; in some cases, prolonging it can damage the filter material.
Not only stopping there, dirt also sticks to the body and inside of the gasoline pump. When entering the rotator cluster and pump blades, it can increase friction, causing the pump to operate heavily, reduce fuel pressure, and in serious cases, it can be jammed or completely damaged.
When the gasoline pump stops operating, the fuel is not delivered to the injector needle, making it difficult for the engine to start or completely stalled.
Reality at many garages shows that damaged gasoline pumps due to using poor quality gasoline often have a thick layer of sediment, often with a lot of sediment, and in some cases signs of oxidation or corrosion appear on the metal surface and the roller is almost locked.
Meanwhile, the car's fuel pumps regularly refuel at reputable gas stations and still operate smoothly, the pump shaft rotates lightly and dirt rarely appears.
Another part that is also directly affected is the fuel filter. The fuel filter has the task of retaining sediment and impurities before the fuel reaches the injection pin. When too much sediment accumulates, the fuel flow will decrease, making the fuel pressure no longer stable. If using poor quality gasoline, the amount of sediment accumulates faster, causing the filter to be blocked, reducing fuel pressure and affecting engine performance.
Mr. Tien recommends that car owners replace fuel filters on schedule according to the manufacturer's instructions, because this is a detail that should not save maintenance costs.
To limit the risk of damage to the fuel system, users should prioritize refueling at reputable stores with clear brands.
In addition, maintaining a reasonable fuel level and limiting the fuel tank from being too shallow also helps the gasoline pump to always be cooled effectively. For cars using steel fuel tanks, the sufficient amount of gasoline in the tank also contributes to reducing the risk of water vapor condensation and limiting internal rust.
