According to Mr. Tran Minh Tien - lecturer of Automotive Technology, Dung Quat College of Technology (Quang Ngai), the first sign when the cooling fan malfunctions is that the air conditioner cools poorly or loses cooling, especially when the car stops or moves slowly. The reason is that the heating system is not cooled effectively, causing the pressure of the cold medium to increase and the cooling efficiency to decrease.
More seriously, when the fan does not rotate, the radiator is also not properly cooled, causing the engine temperature to rise rapidly. The driver needs to monitor the meter or cooling water temperature warning light on the dashboard. If the heat meter displays an abnormal level or the temperature warning light is on, you need to stop the car in a safe place, turn off the engine and wait for the temperature to drop before continuing to check.
Trying to drive when the engine overheats can lead to the phenomenon of blowing the rotary ron. This is a common damage but the repair cost is very high, because the engine cover must be removed, the ron replaced, and a series of related details handled if the engine is affected.
For wind turbine motors using charcoal brooms, this is a natural wear detail and is one of the common causes of poor or non-functioning fans.
When the charcoal broom wears to its limit, the current no longer has good contact with the fuselage, making the motor unable to rotate. The level of wear depends on the usage time and operating distance of the vehicle. Therefore, vehicle owners should check during periodic maintenance or when signs of poor air conditioning or abnormal engine heat appear.
In addition to the phenomenon of coal broom wear, the fan motor may also encounter unusual damage such as burning coils, causing the fan to stop operating suddenly. This is an unpredictable error and needs to be checked with specialized equipment.
To prevent incidents, users can make a preliminary check by turning on the air conditioner and observing whether the fan is working after a short period of time or not. However, on some modern car models, the fan is controlled by the ECU according to the temperature of cooling water and the pressure of cold fluid, so it is not always turned on immediately when the air conditioner is turned on.
Checks should be done during each oil change, maintenance, or car washing to detect abnormal signs early.
For cases of worn charcoal brooms, technically this detail can be replaced separately to save costs. However, Mr. Tien recommends replacing the entire fan cluster if the motor has degraded. Because after dismantling for repair, the durability and reliability of the motor usually decrease, increasing the risk of damage when the vehicle operates on long journeys or moves at high speeds.
Checking and replacing the cooling fan at the right time will help the cooling system operate stably, protect the engine, maintain the efficiency of the air conditioner and limit large repair costs caused by overheating.
