The program had the participation of nearly 400 medical staff from 19 medical facilities including public hospitals, private hospitals and medical centers in Da Nang city.
Mr. Hoang Linh, a medical staff at Da Nang Traditional Medicine Hospital, shared that when he learned about the program calling on medical staff to donate blood for patients during Tet, he registered to participate because this was "a very worthwhile thing to do".
"We work in the medical field, saving lives means taking care of, treating or donating blood to patients. Wherever needed, we will be there," Linh shared.
As the unit that receives blood donations from colleagues in the city, Dr. Pham Thi Ngoc Anh - Head of the Department of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Da Nang Hospital - said that this year, because the New Year and Lunar New Year are close together, some universities let students take Tet holidays earlier than usual. This has caused the amount of blood received at voluntary blood donation points in schools to decrease. To ensure the amount of blood for treatment and emergency care during Tet, the City Health Union and Da Nang Hospital have organized a blood donation program, calling on medical staff to participate.
“Donating blood to save lives is a noble act, demonstrating responsibility to the community. For medical staff participating in blood donation during the days before Tet like this, they themselves are very busy in treating patients, but when we call, they do not hesitate to take the time to participate. That shows the spirit that wherever patients need, they will be ready to be present, which is very valuable. With the number of blood units received today, it will help many patients in need of blood and be a reserve blood source for emergency treatment during Tet” – Dr. Anh shared.
