Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam and his wife work together at Yamaha Motor Vietnam Co., Ltd. When the Company announced the holiday and work schedule for the National Day holiday, Mr. and Mrs. Tam both registered to work overtime for the company's holiday, from September 1st to September 6th.
According to Mr. Tam, his company arranges the work schedule based on work requirements and order progress, so it is "out of sync" with the general holiday schedule of officials and civil servants. Therefore, employees are also allowed to actively register to work or take leave depending on their personal needs.
Mr. Tam calculated that with the basic salary of a person with 20 years of working experience, the amount of 6 days of overtime during the holidays is about 8 million VND; plus the overtime of his wife also saves money on tuition fees at the beginning of the school year for 2 children, including one child going to 9th grade and one child going to 6th grade.
Talking to us on the morning of August 30, Mr. Tam said that at his workshop, most workers register to work part-time on this holiday to increase income. For those who live far from home, the Company still arranges buses to take them to work as usual.
Recently, the company has had many orders, so workers can work overtime to earn extra income. This brings joy to many people" - Mr. Tam shared.
In addition, to celebrate National Day September 2nd, the Company's Trade Union gave each person 500,000 VND.

To have more money to pay for their children's education, Mr. and Mrs. Tam rented a small shop, selling milk tea and various types of noodles (at prices of 50,000 VND - 60,000 VND/bowl depending on the type of beef noodles, sausages or seafood). Most of the shop's customers are workers. The income from the shop plus monthly income, including overtime money, also reduces many difficulties for the family.
Unlike Mr. and Mrs. Nguyen Thanh Tam, Mr. and Mrs. Ho Thi Hien (from An Chau commune, Nghe An) took advantage of the long holiday to return to their hometown to visit their family as well as take their 2 children out to play before the new school year.
Ms. Hien is off from September 2nd to the end of September 6th according to the company's holiday schedule. As for Mr. Cao Xuan Hai, her husband, who works as a contract driver, also asked someone to work for him from September 4th to the end of September 6th. Mr. Hai said that he will drive his family back to his hometown himself. Previously, when there was no car, the whole family had to take a passenger car, which was so hard that when they got back to their hometown, the couple and children were almost lying in one place waiting for their health to recover to visit both sides of the family...
It is known that in industrial parks - export processing zones of Hanoi, some companies schedule holidays from September 2nd to the end of September 6th. Before the long holiday takes place, companies all notify workers so that anyone who needs to register to work during the holiday.
Reality shows that in places where workers work during long holidays, quite a few workers register to go to work because this is an opportunity for them to increase their income. This amount of money is not only to take care of their children in the new school year but also a part to gradually accumulate, preparing for the Lunar New Year.
