Bus station deserted

On the first day of the National Day holiday on September 2nd, the number of passengers at major bus stations in Hanoi only increased slightly compared to normal days. Meanwhile, Noi Bai International Airport is expected to serve about 115,000 passengers, but operations are still smooth.

On the morning of August 29, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters' records at My Dinh and Giap Bat bus stations showed that the number of passengers entering the station to buy tickets and get on the bus was only slightly higher than usual days.

Some short routes such as Hanoi - Vinh Phuc, Hanoi - Hoa Binh, Hanoi - Bac Ninh are quite deserted. Many buses depart with only about 40% of seats filled.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung - driver of the Yen Bai - Hanoi route - said that the morning trip on August 29 only had more than 10 passengers, mainly regular customers who booked tickets in advance.

Cars without passengers, without accompanying goods, running is only enough for fuel money," Mr. Hung said.

Although bus stations are deserted, the area outside the station recorded a fairly large number of people waiting for buses. At No. 24 Pham Hung Street, many passengers gathered in front of bus companies to wait to get on the bus.

When Traffic Police Team No. 6 (Traffic Police Department of Hanoi City Police) set up checkpoints to handle cases of stopping, parking, picking up and dropping off passengers not in accordance with regulations, many vehicles turned around and left the area. This caused many passengers to gather and wait for buses in this area.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Tung - Director of Giap Bat Bus Station (Hanoi Transport Corporation) - said that on August 27, the number of passengers entering the station was about 12,000 people, and the unit has increased 120 vehicles to serve.

However, by the morning of August 29, the number of passengers did not increase sharply as expected but only higher than usual days. The bus station still mobilized 100% of its personnel to be ready to serve passengers.

Representatives of Ha Hai bus company, operating the Minh Loc Bus Station - Giap Bat Bus Station route, said that they have arranged additional backup vehicles during the holidays to meet travel needs.

According to the bus company, the number of passengers on September 2nd this year decreased by about 30% compared to last year. The reason is that many students have returned to their hometowns from the days before the holidays. In addition, shared cars, convenient cars and disguised contract cars also caused the market share of traditional passenger cars to decrease.

Noi Bai is expected to welcome 115,000 visitors

According to Noi Bai International Airport, on August 29, the airport is expected to serve 701 flights with about 115,000 passengers.

In the direction of domestic passengers, there are 11 consecutive peak hours from 6 am to 7 pm, each time frame has more than 2,000 passengers. The 6 am-7 am time frame is the most crowded with about 3,684 passengers.

The domestic afternoon also recorded an increase in passenger volume at 7 time slots, scattered from 9am to 8pm.

Overall, during the holiday from August 29 to September 2, Noi Bai is expected to serve 3,336 flights, an increase of 14% compared to the same period in 2025. The number of passengers through the port is estimated at 531,643, an increase of 22%.

To ensure security and safety, the police force deployed a plan to strengthen level 1 security during the 5-day holiday. Manpower was strengthened in key areas inside and outside the station, and at the same time coordinated to regulate traffic.

Representatives of Noi Bai International Airport said that remote traffic diversion and increased personnel at checkpoints help the check-in area, security check and aircraft exits maintain ventilation.

The port recommends that passengers actively check in online, use VNeID, kiosk check-in and biometrics to reduce waiting time. Currently, 12 kiosks for biometric procedures are located in 3 halls A, B and E of Terminal T1.

Passengers are also recommended to carefully check their papers and luggage and be present 2 hours before departure time for domestic flights, 3 hours for international flights; comply with traffic signs and instructions from functional forces at the terminal. Photo: Phan Cong/Noi Bai Port

Passengers need to carefully check their papers and luggage and be present at least 2 hours before departure time for domestic flights and 3 hours for international flights.

During peak seasons, the slot coordination parameter at Noi Bai is increased to 44 trips/hour. The port also coordinates with the Border Gate Police to regulate vehicle flows and arrange parking areas to ensure smooth traffic.
