Disaster-resistant materials reign in the construction market

In the context of increasing extreme weather, climate-adaptive materials are gradually becoming the dominant trend of the Vietnamese construction market.

Foreign businesses seek opportunities in Vietnam

The increase in strong storms, heavy rain and unusual weather phenomena are forcing the construction industry to change its approach. If previously, costs were the decisive factor in choosing materials, now criteria such as disaster resistance, durability and energy efficiency are increasingly being put first.

This shift has opened up opportunities for foreign businesses to participate more deeply in the Vietnamese market. At Vietbuild Hanoi 2026, one of the major exhibitions of the construction industry, the appearance of Gantan Beauty Industry Co., Ltd. attracted the attention of many experts and businesses.

According to Mr. Seigo Kato - CEO of Gantan, the company has more than 60 years of experience in the field of metal roofs. This is the first time Gantan has brought to Vietnam high-end metal roof product lines and construction technology, with the orientation of serving sustainable projects.

Products such as Gantan Spring Roof GR-800 or Beauty Roof L-100 are designed according to high standards of water retention, strong wind resistance and fire resistance, while meeting the requirements of insulation and energy saving. According to Mr. Kato, these factors are becoming increasingly important in the context of complex climate change.

Houses are a great asset of the people. When thunderstorms occur, roof blowing causes great damage. We build higher standards so that the project can withstand natural disasters well, helping people feel more secure. Our products aim for long-lasting durability, which can last up to 50 years," Mr. Kato said.

Accompanying Vietnam towards sustainable development

Although appreciating the market potential, representatives of Japanese businesses also frankly acknowledged that Gantan's products when imported into Vietnam may have a higher price than the general level. However, according to him, quality and durability are factors that cannot be traded off.

In the long-term strategy, businesses plan to research and invest in production in Vietnam and gradually adjust products to suit market conditions. However, cost optimization will always be accompanied by maintaining strict technical standards - which are the foundation in the business culture of Japanese businesses.

Mr. Seigo Kato also said that Gantan is currently building a team of more than 10 core personnel who are Vietnamese, well-trained and highly specialized. This is considered an important force not only for the development of the business, but also contributing to improving the quality of human resources in the construction industry.

In the long term, businesses expect not only to participate in the market as suppliers, but to become companions, together with Vietnam towards sustainable development.

Expanding the "playground" for green building materials

Along with market trends, policies are also creating momentum for building materials towards sustainability. At the opening ceremony of Vietbuild Hanoi 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said that the construction industry is shifting from management thinking to development creation, with a long-term vision associated with green transformation, digital transformation and climate change adaptation.

Accordingly, construction plans not only ensure regional linkages but also integrate climate change response scenarios. The building materials industry is also transforming towards proactive technology, large-scale production and environmental friendliness.

Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh highly appreciated the participation of businesses at the exhibition, with many high-quality products, diverse designs, showing the competitiveness and creativity of the entire industry.

In that context, disaster-resistant materials are not just a new segment, but are gradually becoming an inevitable trend. This is considered an important foundation for Vietnam's construction industry to better adapt to the challenges of climate change in the future.
