The "Safe Traffic School Gate" model was established according to the decision of the Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee (An Giang). The model aims to raise awareness of traffic law compliance, build a safe and civilized school environment for students and the community.
According to the decision, the "Traffic Safety School Gate" model is being implemented at 5 school sites in Phu Quoc, including: Phu Quoc High School, Duong Dong High School, An Thoi High School, An Giang 1 Intermediate School - Campus 5 and the Continuing Education - Vocational Education Center of Phu Quoc Special Zone, with 14 members participating.
The main task of the model is to monitor the operation of schools, the traffic order and safety situation at school gates during peak hours, control traffic flow, the situation of street vendors and picking up and dropping off students. The model also organizes propaganda on the Road Traffic Law and Decree 168, traffic diversion and regulation, handling violations of encroachment on roadsides and sidewalks and spontaneous parking. At the same time, the model regularly checks and reminds students who are not qualified to participate in traffic, and warns of dangerous behaviors for traffic participants.
Phu Quoc is developing strongly in economy and tourism, while preparing for the APEC 2027 conference, this transformation leads to increased traffic flow. In fact, through patrols and inspections, it is shown that many students still violate the Road Traffic Law such as: driving motorbikes when they are not old enough, not wearing helmets, carrying more people than prescribed, speeding and overtaking recklessly... These behaviors lose the beauty of school culture and pose a potential risk of traffic accidents.
Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Truong - Head of the Traffic Police Department, An Giang Provincial Police said: "We realize that it is very necessary to coordinate with the school to have a more in-depth overall plan, with a more specific timeline to implement ensuring traffic order and safety in the school age group. Because this issue is of practical significance and the content is focused more effectively in the coming time. From there, it contributes to ensuring traffic order and safety in general and especially minimizing and moving towards preventing traffic accidents related to the school age group".
Mr. Le Chi - Vice Principal of An Giang 1 Intermediate School - Campus 5 said: "Through the model of mobilizing all officials and employees in the school to students to participate in traffic safety. At the school, every week there is a flag salute activity, then disseminate to students to participate in traffic safety. In addition, we also invite the Phu Quoc Special Zone Traffic force to deploy for them, distribute leaflets to propagate to them".
Mr. Tran Thanh Hung - Vice Principal of Duong Dong High School, shared: "The school board also directed homeroom teachers to meet with parents to inform parents to sign a commitment to absolutely strictly prohibit students from using vehicles with a cylinder capacity of 50cc or more. The school also thoroughly instructed the parking contractor department that vehicles with a cylinder capacity of 50cc or more are absolutely not allowed to enter the school gate.
In the context of increasing traffic volume and many potential risks for students in the school gate area, the establishment of the model is extremely necessary. This is also one of the practical solutions showing the concern of levels, sectors, schools and families in building a safe and civilized school environment, contributing to spreading traffic culture in the community.
