Honoring farmers in the journey of sustainable agricultural development

Dong Nai - The seminar "The role of farmers in regenerative agriculture" honors 60 farmers in the journey of sustainable agricultural development.

The seminar is an opportunity for farmers to share experiences and look back on the transition journey to a regenerative agricultural model - a direction that Nestle has promoted over the years through the NESCAFE Plan program. With the support of the technical team, the application of science, digital technology and sustainable farming practices has helped farmers increase productivity, improve income and protect the environment.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Binu Jacob - General Director of Nestle Vietnam affirmed: "At Nestle, people are always the center of the sustainable development strategy. The program not only provides technical support but is also a long-term commitment to help farmers increase their income, quality of life and create sustainable values for the Vietnamese coffee industry".

Also within the framework of the program, typical farmers visited the production line and coffee processing technology at Nestle Tri An Factory. This activity helps them better understand the journey "from farm to cup of coffee", when Vietnamese coffee beans are processed, packaged and exported to nearly 40 global markets, including Europe, Japan, Korea and the US.

According to Mr. Truong Hoang Phuong - Director of Nestle Tri An Factory, farmers are the starting point of product quality. "To have a cup of coffee that meets international standards, in addition to the modern production process, the decisive factor still lies in the quality of input materials. The factory is just a place to spread the value that farmers have created," he emphasized.

Representing the group of exemplary farmers, Mr. Dao Duy Quynh (Gia Lai) shared: " Participating in the program has helped me completely change the way I farm. We learn how to apply regeneration techniques, manage households using digital technology, reduce input costs and increase income. When I witness the production process at Nestle factory firsthand, I am even more proud of Vietnamese coffee beans and have more motivation for sustainable farming".

Starting in 2011, the NESCAFE Plan program was implemented by Nestle Vietnam in collaboration with the Central Highlands Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Science and Technology (WASI) and local Agricultural Extension Centers. The goal is to support farmers in switching to a regenerative agricultural model, improving productivity, saving resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

To date, the program has organized more than 467,000 training sessions, supporting seedlings for an average of 21,000 farming households each year, distributing more than 86 million high-yield, disease-resistant seedlings, contributing to the replanting of 86,000 hectares of old coffee.

Thanks to the application of regenerative farming methods, farmers can save 40 - 60% of irrigation water, reduce 20% of fertilizers and pesticides, and increase income by 30 - 150%.

With these efforts, the program continues to affirm its pioneering role in developing a sustainable coffee industry, placing farmers at the center of the agricultural regeneration journey.
