Recently, IU caused a stir with the TV series "When life gives you tangerines". In the film, the female singer impressively transforms into two roles with different colors - the enthusiastic young girl Ae Soon and the ambitious girl Geum Myeong.
Talking about the film, IU said that as soon as she received the script, she read it on the spot and wanted to immediately take on the role of Ae Soon - a character very different from the dark roles she had played before.
The two films My Uncle (another film starring IU) and When Life Is for You have in common is focusing on human emotions rather than events with different rhythms.
With My Uncle, Ji An begins in the darkness and gradually steps out into the sunlight. On the contrary, Ae Soon started in the sunlight, went through a lot of darkness, but in the end overcame difficulties, searched for light, she said.
Sharing more with The Korea Times, the Korean star believes that this is also the main theme of the film - "Life goes on as long as you live".
The film covers many different topics - family, women, stories beyond time and generation, love and ambition. But in the end, it's about life.
I especially like the ending, when Gwan Sik's passing was heartbreaking, but Ae Soon raised his head, stood up straight and proudly completed his poem to give to Gwan Sik. Even after he passed away, Ae Soon continues to live well and I find that very touching.
For IU, participating in the film gave her more time to reflect on the meaning of living a successful and fulfilling life.
"I am a person with many desires. In the journey to successfully reach the top, there are times when I don't feel what I should feel or can't connect with people when I should.
Society considers such achievements as success, but if one can say, I wrote a book of poems and that is my treasure at the end of my life (like Ae Soon), then perhaps that is the meaning of living a meaningful and fulfilling life - IU shared.
