The work is titled "A movie by Lee Cronin: The Mummy" (original title: Lee Cronin's The Mummy), directed by Lee Cronin, with the production participation of James Wan and Jason Blum.
Unlike previous versions that were often associated with the adventurous and mysterious atmosphere in ancient Egypt, the 2026 film version chooses a new approach, placing the story in a modern social context. The content revolves around a girl named Katie who mysteriously disappears in the desert. Eight years later, she suddenly returns to her family, but carries signs of being possessed by a terrifying ancient power.
The film deeply explores the supernatural horror element combined with family psychology. Katie's parents, played by Jack Reynor and Laia Costa, face fear when witnessing their daughter gradually transform. The role of Katie, played by young actress Natalie Grace, is expected to bring haunting scenes on the big screen.
According to the crew, the film not only exploits the mummy curse in a familiar way, but also promotes the physical horror element with gruesome images such as decomposing bodies, oozing wounds. The work is labeled R, targeting adult audiences with many violent and bloody scenes.
Director Lee Cronin – who once attracted attention with Evil Dead Rise – continues to pursue a dark horror style, focusing on pain, guilt and loss in the family. He said he was inspired by works like Poltergeist or Se7en, in order to build a tense and realistic atmosphere.
The participation of James Wan and Jason Blum - two names associated with famous horror brands - is considered a guarantee of production quality. This duo has been behind many successful projects, contributing to shaping the trend of modern horror films.
Immediately after early screenings in Vietnam from April 16, the film received positive feedback from a part of audiences who love the horror genre. The film project grossed 1.1 billion VND after the official premiere.
Currently, the movie "The Mummy" has to face Vietnamese movies for the April 30th holiday season including: Phi Phong, Heo Nam Mong, Anh Hung, Trum So...
