The work belongs to the action, thriller, and science fiction genres, but it does not simply follow the fast pace of films, but also skillfully incorporates emotional family stories, making viewers both nervous and depressed.
Set in the near future, the film "Evidence of Life and Death" raises a controversial hypothesis: when artificial intelligence is given control over the entire judicial system. At the Mercy Court, AI Judge Maddox (played by Rebecca Ferguson) is both the judge and the jury, even directly executing dangerous crimes. This system helps reduce crime rates sharply, overcoming inherent weaknesses of traditional justice such as emotionality, slowness and being easily influenced.
The climax began when inspector Christopher Raven (played by Chris Pratt) – who strongly supported bringing AI to trial – suddenly became a defendant. After waking up from his drunkenness, he was shocked to learn that his wife had been murdered and Maddox concluded that he had a 97.5% chance of being the perpetrator. Christopher only had 90 minutes to find evidence to prove his innocence before being sentenced to death. In that short period of time, he and the AI judge accessed a series of digital data such as cameras, phones, police records to track down the truth.
The attraction of the film lies in constantly putting the audience in a state of suspicion: is Christopher a victim or is he the villain trying to deceive AI? The fast, continuous pace of the film, not letting viewers "take a break" when every small detail can be an important clue.
Besides the sensational element, "Evidence of Life and Death" also touches on emotions with a family story. The rift between Christopher and his wife, the distance between him and his daughter after the event makes viewers ponder about marriage, responsibility and connection in a modern family. The film raises the question: in a breakup, is there only one right and one wrong?
In terms of acting, Chris Pratt fully expresses the confusion, anger and remorse of a person who has just lost his wife and is standing before the boundary of life and death. Meanwhile, Rebecca Ferguson makes a strong impression with the image of a cold AI judge but gradually revealing sophisticated "humanistic" expressions. The contrast between humans and artificial intelligence is the highlight of the film.
