The ghost of the Hua family" is one of the most famous urban legends in Cho Lon area (HCMC), associated with the image of an ancient villa with many mysteries.
The story tells about the youngest daughter of Uncle Hoa suffering from a strange disease and then passing away, the soul is not liberated, often lurking in the house, creating a terrifying atmosphere and rumors lasting for many decades. From a word-of-mouth anecdote, in 1973, director Le Hoang Hoa brought this story to the screen through the black and white movie "The Ghost of the Promised Family", with the participation of famous artists such as Bach Tuyet, Thanh Tu, Dung Thanh Lam... The work once caused a box office fever in the South and is considered one of the first horror films of Vietnamese cinema.
After 5 decades, the film crew decided to "reborn" this familiar story in a new form called "Lau chu Hoa". According to the producer, the project has been nurtured for more than 5 years to complete the script. Instead of redoing the original, the crew chose a new approach, exploiting legends from a modern perspective, in order to create a closer experience to contemporary audiences while still maintaining the mysterious and characteristic haunting color.
Currently, the crew has not announced the official cast, making the project even more attractive to curiosity. A representative of the producer said that adapting a familiar anecdote is both an opportunity and a challenge. “We don't just want to retell the old story, but hope to bring a new perspective, a new style, so that the audience can be surprised even when they know the legend,” the crew shared.
Notably, in this project, the crew also cooperated with Hive Media Corp (Korea) - a unit that has produced many sensational works such as 12.12: The Day (2023), A Normal Family (2024), BOSS (2025).
